Am I eligible for the Journey Awards?

We welcome both community and self-nominations. The Awards are open to anyone who:

  • Self-identifies as a woman or non-binary person
  • Is trained in a STEM field
  • Is an immigrant, newcomer, permanent resident, or refugee to Canada

Nominees should also demonstrate:

  • Resilience, strength, and innovation in their field
  • A proven track record of leadership and community service
  • Excellence in their work that paves the way for others to follow

Ontario Journey Award Winner

  • Monishola is a leader in nuclear technology, driving innovation to support Canada's net-zero goal by 2030 through her research on molten salts and their behavior in advanced nuclear reactors. In addition to her groundbreaking work at the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), she actively fosters gender diversity in STEM through her leadership roles in initiatives like the CNSC Women in STEM network and the North America Young Generation in Nuclear. Monishola's dedication to advancing nuclear technology and supporting women in the industry highlights her exceptional leadership and commitment to community service.

British Columbia Journey Winner

  • Dr. Ly Vu, a professor at UBC and Canada Research Chair, is a groundbreaking cancer researcher recognized with prestigious awards, including the V Foundation Women Scientists Innovation Award and the Terry Fox New Investigator Award. As an immigrant from Vietnam, she is a dedicated mentor, academic advisor for the International Vietnamese Academics Network, and advocate for women and underrepresented minorities. Dr. Vu also serves on UBC's EDI Advisory Committee and was featured as one of 25 “Women Leaders in Stem Cell & Regenerative Medicine” on Parliament Hill.

Québec Prix Journey Winner

  • Cette finaliste incarne l’innovation et le leadership en ingénierie. Arrivée au Québec en 1996 pour poursuivre des études à Polytechnique Montréal, elle s’est spécialisée dans la recherche acéricole, devenant l’une des pionnières dans l’optimisation énergétique des évaporateurs et le développement de systèmes de traitement de l’eau d’érable directement à la ferme—une avancée majeure dans un secteur traditionnellement masculin.

    Depuis 2019, elle contribue à la formation des futures générations d’ingénieur·es, enseignant la mécanique des fluides, le transfert thermique et l’instrumentation. Plus récemment, elle s’intéresse à l’éthique de l’intelligence artificielle en éducation. Son engagement communautaire se traduit par sa participation à des ateliers scientifiques pour les jeunes et son rôle actif dans un comité de vigilance et de bien-être universitaire.

    Avec près de 28 ans d’expérience, son parcours illustre la persévérance et l’impact des femmes immigrantes dans les STEM, inspirant ainsi les générations futures.
